On January 23, 2006 KXAN.com reported, "[The Islamic Ahlul Bayt Association in Northwest Austin was vandalized] between 12:30 a.m. and 6:30 a.m. Sunday. Someone knocked down the basketball hoops and positioned them to block the gate. They also threw bricks and some portable weights into the driveway. Then, the vandals re-arranged the letters on the Islamic Center’s marquee. The culprits left behind a hate message directed toward the Jewish faith... This is an Islamic center, not a Jewish center, so members there are a little confused about the message on the marquee, but they say that no matter who it's directed towards, it's not acceptable. They also said that there was another vandalism last year where someone had tampered with the marquee letters. There are no suspects in either case."
