On February 6, 2003 The Muslim Public Affairs Council reported that "MPAC finds [Coble's] statements unacceptable and believes it disqualifies Rep. Coble from his political position. Not only has the United States apologized to Japanese Americans for their unjust internment and dispossession during WW2, but our nation has paid reparations to that community and educated our children on the evils of internment for years... For a representative of the American people with such a powerful and sensitive position to show total ignorance of that history is simply unacceptable, and does not demonstrate the judgement needed to adequately serve our nation in the difficult times ahead."
