On July 25, 2005 the Daily Express reported, "The Consumer Association of Sabah and Labuan (Cash) hopes the State Education Department will respect the wishes of non-Muslim parents who want their children to be allowed to learn their respective religions during school hours. At the moment, religious education is only allowed for Muslim students while students of other faiths have to take Moral lessons. Its President, Patrick Sindu... [said he] believed students' lack of understanding of their respective religions is among factors that contributed to moral decadence. He said all religions be it Islam, Christianity and Buddhis[m], among others, propagate non-violence. 'Therefore, religion plays a very important role in instilling discipline and positive values among students.'"
