Nationwide Merit-Making Ceremony Begins

BANGKOK, April 17 (TNA) - Thai people nationwide from all walks of life and different religions Tuesday morning participated in a national merit-making ceremony which will last until Sunday (April 22).

The interim government hosted the activity to honour His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej on the auspicious occasion of his 80th birthday on December 5 this year.

In Bangkok, thousands of Buddhists joined the alms giving ceremony involving 181 Buddhist monks at Sanam Luang, the Royal ceremonial ground for the capital.

Other activities included chanting by 801 Buddhist monks daily through Sunday.

There will also be blessing ceremonies performed by religious leaders from the Muslim, Christian, Hindu and Sikh communities.
