On January 1, 2005 The Salt Lake Tribune reported, "A plane carrying more than 70 tons of relief supplies for tsunami-devastated Asia is slated to lift off from Salt Lake City early today, thanks to a joint effort by Mormons and Muslims. About 143,000 pounds of medical supplies and hygiene items provided by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints were loaded Friday onto an Indonesia-bound MD-11 cargo plane that was chartered by the California-based Islamic Relief Worldwide (IRW). Distribution of the items will be directed by both organizations. The quick response and large shipment demonstrates the generosity of followers of both faiths, IRW and LDS Church representatives said Friday at a news conference at the UPS Air Cargo terminal at Salt Lake City International Airport."
