On August 18, 2004 US Newswire reported, "The Florida office of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-FL), in cooperation with the Islamic Center of Southwest Florida (ICSWF) of Ft. Meyers, today announced plans to mobilize that state's Muslim community to provide disaster relief for victims of Hurricane Charley. CAIR-FL is calling on Islamic centers and mosques across the state to designate this Friday as 'Hurricane Disaster Relief Day'... Prayer leaders (Imams) at mosques are also being asked to use their Friday sermons to remind worshipers about the Islamic obligation to help neighbors, to mobilize volunteers and to make special supplications for the hurricane victims."
