On November 4, 2001, The Tampa Tribune reported that Ramadan "is the holiest month in the Islamic faith, marking when Allah revealed the Muslim holy book, the Koran, to Muhammad the prophet. Muslims submit themselves to the will of God, show self-control and remember the needy who suffer deprivation year-round...To protect the fragile alliance with Muslim countries, Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf has urged the United States to curtail bombing raids on Afghanistan during Ramadan."
