On August 27, 2005 The Times ran an opinion piece by Rabbi Dr Jonathan Romain, minister of Maidenhead Synagogue and author of Reform Judaism and Modernity (SCM Press), on dialogue between British Jews and Muslims. Romain writes, "Jews and Muslims in Britain today do not spend their time re-enacting the Middle East conflict. The priority of both is everyday life in the UK, which includes living alongside members of other faiths. It is against this background of a generally peaceful history, but with a potentially acrimonious present, that British rabbis, myself included, have undertaken various initiatives to foster Jewish-Muslim co-operation. The results have varied enormously, ranging from the distasteful to the heart-warming." He goes on to give details of these "enormously varied results."
