On June 3, 2004 the Sacramento News Review reported, "Muslim women are viewed in one of two ways, said a panelist at UC Davis’ Muslim Women’s Panel: They’re considered oppressed and depressed, she said, or they’re considered, especially by men in the West, to be sexually exotic, 'hiding unusual, bizarre sexual fantasies.' Neither assessment, argued the panelist, is accurate, and yet both persist."
