On April 16, 2005 the Star Tribune reported, "Green Party candidate Farheen Hakeem would rather talk about issues in the Minneapolis mayor's race than her religion or gender... So far, Hakeem, 29, doesn't face competition for the Green Party endorsement, but she confronts other challenges. Unlike the experienced who can raise money from donor lists, she's new to fundraising. Last month, she noted that she had collected $60 total from several donors.

Despite the challenges of running a shoestring campaign, Hakeem hopes to provide a spark... Hakeem admits she's still working on the details, but she has four themes to her campaign: economic stability, good jobs with livable wages, real affordable housing and an anti-racist approach to public safety."
