On June 13, 2006 the Ottawa Sun reported, "The Ottawa Muslim Association is launching a Canada pin-wearing campaign to counter lingering assumptions that Muslims are not patriotic in the wake of the Toronto terror arrests.

Association president Bader Siddiqi wore his red maple leaf Canada pin for a meeting of Muslim organizations held at the Ottawa Mosque last night.

'Non-Muslim Canadians do not have a monopoly on patriotism,' said Siddiqi. 'Our religion states we have to protect the country you live in.'

Siddiqi said the campaign would run until July 2.

The meeting, which was closed to the media, touched on how the community could reach disaffected Muslim youth vulnerable to radicalism. Planned discussions included how to reach youth and parents, the role of the Internet and the role of Muslim community leaders."
