On March 18, 2005 a Washington File Press Release reported, "an English-language cable television channel for Muslim Americans launched in late 2004 has met with early success and has plans to spread to major metropolitan areas in the United States. Bridges TV, which began broadcasting on November 30, 2004, seeks to attract not only the estimated five to seven million Muslim Americans, but also mainstream Americans who want to be informed about Islam and Muslims in America. In the wake of the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001, Islam and Muslims were thrust into the U.S. media spotlight. As a result, many Muslim Americans felt the need for an English-language media outlet that could explain Islamic culture and values to mainstream America."
