On November 7, 2001, The Tucson Citizen reported, "Prosecutors to seek death penalty for suspect in revenge shooting." The article stated, "The Maricopa County Attorney will seek the death penalty for a man accused of killing an Indian immigrant in the days following the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks." It continued, "Maricopa County Attorney Richard Romley has formally alleged the slaying was motivated by hate...'This death was not only a senseless death, it's one that demands the most severe of punishments, and we shall seek that upon conviction,' Romley said."
