On January 4, 2003 the Philadelphia Inquirer reported that "the Golden Sunrise New Year Association, tempered by rain and fire, will be doubly glad to get onto Market Street [PA] for today's 2003 Mummers Parade if weather permits. Earlier this week, a fire two doors away from their Greenwich Street club, situated in an old slaughterhouse off South 2nd Street, brought Mummers from a dozen or more clubs to help them pull props to safety. The fire gutted a Cambodian Buddhist temple, where it began. 'Four of our guys went into that building and pulled the monks out of there,' said Sunrise Captain Matt Glovacz. 'As fast as the Fire Department came, that was great, because they had 100 bottles of propane in there that would have leveled the block.' Palma Lucas, who is president of the Mummers Museum and who also sewed and built several dozen suits for Golden Sunrise, said, 'We really cared about those monks. We have a history with that temple.'"
