MPAC Hosts Joint Press Conference with FBI-DC to Respond to Foiled Terror Plot

On August 11, 2006 a Muslim Public Affairs Council Press Release reported, "In response to the British terror plot, MPAC today held a press conference with the Joseph Persichini, Assistant Director in Charge of the Washington, DC Field Office, as well as national Arab and Muslim leaders to voice their solidarity in the fight against terrorism. The unprecedented event, which was the first time federal law enforcement officials publicly acknowledged the work of the American Muslim community in combating extremism and terrorism, will be aired on C-SPAN throughout the day. Ahmed Younis, National Director of MPAC opened the press conference by stating, "We are here to express relief that British law enforcement and the British Muslim community were able to work in partnership to unfoil this heinous act against our nation and we stand here to rearticulate our stiffest opposition to any and all groups that want to defame the integrity of our religion and attack innocence." Persichini expressed that need to strengthen dialogue between the Muslim community and law enforcement. 'Terrorist attempts were stopped in their tracks because of a partnership with Muslim and Arab American communities,' Persichini said. 'Today is an important day to stand here with the Muslim and Arab American community because this alliance with strengthen our nation.' Imam Mohamed Maged of the All Dulles Area Muslim Society (ADAMS) underscored the importance of the Muslim community working with law enforcement, and stated that it is the responsibility of the Muslim community to protect this nation. 'This relationship with the FBI Washington Field Office has been very beneficial to the community and the FBI has interacted in a positive way with members of the community on many occasions,' Maged told reporters."
