On November 17, 2003 Muslim Public Affairs Council (MPAC) released a statement condemning the attacks on two Istanbul synagogues: "The Muslim Public Affairs Council (MPAC), is horrified by the criminal bombings in Istanbul, Turkey, of two synagogues on November 14. No civilized people, and no religion, could possibly sanction or condone in any way such sickening behavior. The fact that the majority of the victims of these terrible attacks were Muslims, including policemen and security guards assigned to the temples, only confirms that those who carry out such attacks are criminals with no ideology. The Qur'an explicitly forbids any tampering with the sanctity of churches and synagogues, which are recognized as houses where God is worshiped."
