On December 31, 2001, The Columbus Dispatch reported "Islamic Center Ransacked." It noted, "The 15 Muslims who came to worship early yesterday morning at the Masjidka Islamic Center did not let the vandalism they encountered stop them -- they prayed in the parking lot in sub-freezing temperatures. ... The group arrived for morning prayer to find water pouring from the ceiling, light fixtures hanging precariously from the walls and copies of the Quran scattered throughout the building."
