On July 10, 2003 The Associated Press reported that "the Imamia Organization has been trying to start a mosque in a Monroeville [PA] house for about 18 months. According to a variance the Monroeville zoning board approved in September, the mosque would be able to hold up to 68 people and have 17 parking spaces... But Monroeville Council on Tuesday rejected the group's applications for a conditional use permit, approval of the mosque's site plan and a subdivision request... Dr. Hashim Raza, one of the trustees for Imamia, said the center would follow all municipal regulation. The group will go to court to fight for the right to have the center in Monroeville because many members live nearby, Raza said."
