MILTON - Local clergy and town officials are rallying around Temple Shalom, where vandals drew swastikas on the same day of the congregation’s Holocaust memorial services.

‘‘That this happened on the same day the Jewish community observed Yom HaShoah, or Holocaust Memorial Day, seems beyond coincidence,’’ said Rabbi Alfred Benjamin.

Two swastikas about 1 foot by 1 foot were drawn in black marker on Plexiglas covering the bulletin board on the front lawn of the synagogue at 180 Blue Hill Ave. and on a side door. The Nazi symbols were found on Saturday.

‘‘This act is not only a desecration; it is also a clear threat to our community’s sense of safety and security,’’ Rabbi Benjamin said.
