On September 7, 2006 BBC News reported, "Manchester has one of the UK's highest rates of anti-Semitic attacks, a cross party group of MPs has said. The Parliamentary Committee Against Anti-Semitism said nearly a quarter of UK anti-Semitic incidents happened in Gtr Manchester in the last six months. Only London had a higher level of anti-Semitic attacks. When the group visited a Jewish school in Manchester almost every pupil they met had experienced some kind of abuse or harassment because of their faith. Among the incidents reported to the MPs in their visit to the King David High School, Manchester, was a young girl who had a car driven at her as she walked to the synagogue with her mother. Other pupils reported receiving verbal abuse including 'get out of our country' and 'where does Hitler live?' The MPs also read literature claiming to be from a far right group trying to oppose the relocation of a Jewish school saying 'No Jew school in Heaton Park.' Rabbi Arnold Saunders, of Higher Broughton and Higher Crumpsall Synagogue said he had been punched, verbally abused and had eggs thrown at him. He said one of the most serious incidents came late night at a petrol station when a man got out of a car and approached him saying 'we're going to kill you Jew' - which he reported to the police... The MPs' report lists 220 anti-Semitic incidents in London from January to August this year and 87 in Manchester. There were 14 in Liverpool, 11 in Hertfordshire, 10 in Glasgow, seven in Leeds and five each in Newcastle, Cambridge and Newark."
