On August 9, 2000, the Star Tribune reported on Senator Lieberman's religious views in the article "Lieberman's Religious Faith Intertwined with Political Life; Many Jews Admire his Adherence to Orthodoxy, Even when Its Rules Collide with Career Demands." Many have seen evidence of Lieberman's personal commitment to his faith, Rabbi Moshe Feller of St. Paul, is one. He says, "Sometimes if he knows he has to vote on a Saturday, he'll stay at our Lubavich House in Washington, within walking distance of the Senate." Feller is Midwest director of the World Lubavich Movement, which is part of the Orthodox tradition. "And he will not write, because this also is forbidden."

"Other Twin Cities Jews who have met Lieberman, or heard about him from Jewish friends, painted similar pictures. They say Lieberman has accomplished what many Jews strive for: being true to one's religious beliefs while succeeding in a world that often strains such efforts."
