On April 8, 2005 IslamOnline.net reported, "responding to the shutdown and restrictions on the Islamic charities and non-profit groups in the United States, US Muslims announced the formation of the National Council of American Muslims Non-Profits in an effort to develop a comprehensive oversight mechanism ensuring transparency and protection for the Muslim institutions in the country. The formation of the Council, spearheaded by the Muslim Public Affairs Council (MPAC) and the Islamic Society of North America (ISNA), was declared during their joint American Muslims Policy Forum in Rosemont, the Chicago Tribune reported Friday, April 8. The nascent council aims at promoting the ability of the Muslim minority in the United States for advocacy and encouraging the US government to engage with the American Muslims with full transparency, according to the MPAC Web site."
