On August 12, 2003 Times Herald-Record reported that "the Kadampa Meditation Center started building the $2 million temple just over three years ago for its world headquarters. Lumberland was selected because it's close to New York City... Sangkyong lives year-round with 10 other people in a farmhouse near the temple. In a former barn, the school warehouses books of their teacher, Master Geshe Kelsang Gyatso, who brought the tradition to England in 1977... Last week, Sangkyong walked with soft steps up the small rise to the temple, noticing the ground he stepped on to avoid trampling on anything."
