On October 19, 2001. The American Muslim Council issued a press release stating that "The American Muslim Council, along with other groups of Christian, Muslim, and Unitarian Universalist religious organizations, sent a letter to Members of Congress and the Administration today expressing concerns over the civil liberties, including religious freedoms, threatened by the combating terrorism bills presently under consideration."
