Interfaith pioneer Rabbi John Levi has been awarded a professorship at the Australian Catholic University (ACU).

The Australian Jewish News reports the Rabbi will use the position to "build even stronger bonds between the university and the Australian Jewish community".

"The appointment is a very sincere attempt by the Catholic community to make sure they don’t lose touch with their Jewish roots," he told The AJN.

The ACU has appointed Rabbi Levi, emeritus rabbi of Temple Beth Israel, and leading inter-religious scholar Dr Daniel Madigan as adjunct professors to the Asia-Pacific Centre for Inter-religious Dialogue, based in Melbourne.
