On April 28, 2005 The Jerusalem Post reported, "While thousands of people flocked to Jerusalem's Old City on Thursday to visit the various museums and holy sites, one group stood out among the sea of visitors not because of its size but rather due to its predominant gender – female. Following a thousands-year old Jewish custom, members of a small grassroots group called 'Women for the Temple Mount' entered the holy site on Thursday in an effort to raise awareness among Israel's women about the Temple Mount and its vast historical and religious significance. 'Women have a special niche when it comes to the Temple Mount,' said Tziporah Piltz - head of Women for the Temple Mount. 'Today 90 percent of the people who go up are men and if we begin to allow women to enter in holiness and purity we will speed up the construction of the Jewish Temple'... While there are rabbis who permit women entry into the Temple Mount after going to the Mikve – or ritual bath –mainstream rabbis are still opposed, Piltz said."
