On October 5, 2004 the Cleveland Jewish News reported, "With a hectic speaking schedule taking him to numerous U.S. cities, Rabbi Michael Melchior barely knew which time zone he was in when he arrived at the Mandel Jewish Community Center for his recent address to the Cleveland Jewish Community Federation's Community Relations Committee. But fatigue didn't stop Israel's energetic Knesset member and deputy minister for foreign affairs from offering an enlightening overview of some of Israel's most pressing social issues. Melchior has been a vocal advocate for pluralism and religious tolerance, establishing many programs aimed at narrowing the gaps in Israeli society. He is currently spearheading a Jewish-Muslim dialogue among leading religious figures throughout the Middle East, and he chairs a caucus of Jews and Arabs living in Israel."
