Islamic Legislators to Boycott World Economic Forum

On May 17, 2005 United Press International reported, "Jordan's Islamic legislators have decided to boycott the World Economic Forum to be hosted by Jordan because of Israeli participation. Deputy Zuheir Abu Ghaleb said Tuesday, 'The Islamic members of parliament who received invitations to attend the forum will boycott because of the participation of Israeli politicians and economists.' Israel's delegation to the forum will comprise Deputy Prime Minister Shimon Perez, Foreign Minister Sylvan Shalom and Finance Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. An estimated 1,300 officials and prominent figures from all over the world will attend the three-day forum which starts Friday at a Dead Sea tourist resort."
