Controversial plans have been revealed to extend the size of the Torquay Islamic Centre.

The owners of the building in Avenue Road have applied to Torbay Council to change the use of a chiropodist business next door.

The centre will create a new library, offices and prayer room after knocking down the dividing wall.

But the scheme has generated 18 objections from residents and businesses in the neighbourhood.

They are concerned about a lack of parking, traffic congestion, too many worshippers and the building not being in keeping with the 'holiday character' of the area.
