On August 9, 2001, The Plain Dealer reported that "a federal appeals court has reinstated an Iranian-born mathematician's job-bias lawsuit against Oberlin College because his race is 'Middle Eastern.' Saeid B. Amini said Oberlin...rejected him because he was a nonwhite Muslim...In October 1998, he sought [an]Oberlin faculty position, but lost out to Chris Andrews, a younger white male who was an Oberlin graduate. In his lawsuit, Amini claimed that Andrews had far less teaching experience and had published fewer professional articles."
