On June 5, 2005 The Panthic Weekly reported, "In a bid to end the growing religious intolerance in European countries and other regions, the Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar) will be addressing problems faced by Sikhs at an international meet in Spain this month.

Akali leader and MP Simranjit Singh Mann in a statement said his party will be sending a delegation to Cordoba in Spain for the international conference organised by the Organisation of Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE).

Mr Singh said that it is the first time that the problems of Sikhs will be highlighted at an international forum and he and his party will be trying their level best to deal with issues such as the last year's ban imposed by the French government on the wearing of turbans by Sikh students in public schools. He describe this as 'neo-fascism' and he said that he found it sad that religious intolerance was taking place under the garb of modern secularism."
