On November 18, 2001, The New Haven Register reported on the Thanksgiving Interfaith service to be held in Wallingford, Connecticut. "The Rev. Eric Fjeldal, pastor of the Yalesville United Methodist Church, said the leader of the Muhammad Islamic Center of Hamden has been invited 'so that we might learn from each other. We have Islamic brothers and sisters in Wallingford and it is important that we worship together.'" The article noted that the event was sponsored by the Wallingford Clergy Association and the Coalition for Unity, "formed in response to hate groups that have visited Wallingford."
