On March 29, 2004 AllAfrica.com posted a Catholic Information Service for Africa article that reported, "Religious leaders have been urged to fearlessly condemn the atrocities of war being meted on their fellow human beings, and always stand up for their faith, even if it means making a few sacrifices. The religious leaders should also fight against the misuse of religion for political and other antagonistic purposes. These calls were made by Rt Rev Ishmael Noko, the General Secretary of the Lutheran World Federation and convenor of the Interfaith Peace Summit for the Horn of Africa taking place in Nairobi, Kenya, from Saturday, March 27, 2004 to Monday 29, 2004. 'I urge all faith communities to first set a basis for close cooperation among themselves as an essential foundation for contributing to the shaping of a new and more unified Africa,' said Rev Noko during a keynote address at the opening ceremony on Saturday morning. The Reverend urged the Peace Summit to move and embrace other countries outside the region, for their efforts to bear fruit."
