On July 2, 2003 the Herald Leader reported that "the faces in the Kentucky Theatre last night ranged from black to white to brown... Their voices represented Jews, Muslims, Christians and Catholics... And they were all united in cheers... They were gathered for the patriotic "Faces of Faith in America' rally, hosted by The Interfaith Alliance of the Bluegrass... The event kicked off on Esplanade, where people milled about the street, talking, eating Indian food and watching a local belly-dancing group... The rally itself nearly filled the main theater at the Kentucky, where choral groups sang and leaders from various religions championed tolerance and religious freedom... Sayyid Muhammad Syeed, secretary general of the Islamic Society of North America, said he made 'a pilgrimage' to the rally from the society's headquarters in Plainfield, Ind."
