On September 17, 2004 the Malden Observer reported, "First Church in Malden and Temple Tifereth Israel believe these weeks leading up to the holiday rush is the perfect time to get residents to think about a different type of holiday giving. The church is hosting its second annual Alternative Holiday Fair Saturday, Nov. 13, and this year, the temple is pitching in. It's an interfaith endeavor that both congregations hope will raise awareness about various fair trade and social justice organizations that operate locally and globally. Last year's fair featured tables, for example, from Heifer International, an organization which aims to stamp out hunger around the world, and RESPOND, Inc., a Somerville-based domestic violence outreach organization that serves Malden. Although the members of Temple Tifereth Israel, a Reform Jewish congregation, will be observing the Sabbath that day, they will be helping with the advance planning as part of an effort for the two congregations to work together throughout the year."
