On March 4, 2006 KBCI TV reported, "Hundreds of people turned out Saturday morning for the annual Idaho State Prayer Breakfast. This year the event stirred controversy because organizers invited Dr. Hormoz Shariat, a pastor who believes followers of Islam are evil, to serve as keynote speaker. Earlier this week 14 religious leaders sent a letter to Governor Dirk Kempthorne urging him not to attend the breakfast, but the governor responded by saying he's a guest at the event and had nothing to do with the selection of the keynote speaker. 'This is one of the largest prayer breakfast gatherings we've had. Good for you for being here a message, a message of someone who is simply expressing to us how his life has been changed,' Governor Kempthorne told attendees. 'This message is so powerful with millions of Moslems, especially Iranians are so hungry, open to this gospel. Especially when the truth is presented with love. Nobody can argue with that,' Dr. Shariat said. Dr. Shariat is a native of Iran and says his ministry is aimed at converting Muslims to Christianity."
