On July 23, 2004 The Houston Chronicle reported,"Events celebrating the dedication of the new BAPS Shree Swaminarayan Mandir kick into high gear today with a parade that will travel from the Fort Bend County temple to the Galleria area. The parade will begin at 3:30 p.m. at the temple, 1150 Brand Lane near Stafford, with a motorcade of decorated floats, including one of a peacock, an eagle, a lotus and a swan, which are symbols for Hindu ideals... The purpose of the parade is to welcome the deities that will reside in the new mandir, or temple, and to pray for world peace and the blessings of God on the area, said Jayesh Shelat, a computer professional and volunteer spokesman for the temple."
