Some 300 Sikh families in Menglembu and its surrounding areas in Perak can soon look forward to praying in a more conducive environment when a new darbaar sahib (prayer hall) is constructed at Gurdwara Sahib Menglembu.

The families there had sent out requests for donations as the nearly century-old existing prayer hall was in danger of collapsing due to termite infestation.

Gurdwara Sahib Menglembu president Pritam Singh said the Sikhs there had planned to build a new prayer hall some time ago but could not proceed due to lack of funds.

“We needed RM600,000 for the new prayer hall, and we have no words to express our gratitude to the Klang Valley-based United Sikhs Sports and Cultural Club (USSCC), which has helped us raise RM165,101 within two months,” he said.

Earlier, USSCC president ASP Balwant Singh presented a mock cheque to Pritam at a dinner held at the club premises.

Pritam said Sikh families from Falim, Papan, Pusing and Siputih would also benefit as the prayer hall would be able to accommodate a bigger congregation.
