On December 30, 2003 The Associated Press reported, "A menorah on display for Hanukkah in a town park was damaged by vandals, authorities said. The menorah in Braunsdorf Park was bent and its bulbs and candelabra arms were broken, according to State Assemblyman Ryan Karben, who represents the area. It was found damaged on Wednesday. 'This is a clear bias-motivated crime,' Karben said in a statement. 'To disrupt this season of faith with an attack on a religious symbol is the act of a twisted mind.'"
