Hindus will finally have a place to worship in the north after Salisbury Council approved an application for a temple in Greenfields.

The Bochasanswasi Shri Akshar Puruhottam Swaminarayan Sanstha (BAPS) group, which is behind the Greenfields project, currently hire a hall at the Enfield Uniting Church to conduct services for about 90 devotees.

BAPS media spokesman Ronak Patel said the $3 million temple the first in northern Adelaide would give the group a base.

“It is the first temple in Australia to be built from scratch all the others have been extensions of existing buildings,” he said.
