Government Hosts Interfaith Dialogue

On April 27, 2006 the Khaleej Times reported, "The 4th Conference on Interfaith dialogue opened in Qatar on Tuesday evening under the patronage of the Amir, His Highness Shaikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, with the participation of a number of Muslim, Christian and Jewish religious leaders. Speaking at the opening session, Qatar’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Ahmed bin Abdullah Al Mahmoud, said that the country regards interfaith dialogue as an important way to promote understanding and promote peace. The theme of the conference is '[t]he role of faiths in the formation of human beings' and discussions are covering religions and civil rights; freedom of expression and the religious sanctities: religion, women and the family; religious pluralism and respect for others; religions and protection of the environment; religion and the strengthening of moral values; religion and globalisation; and religion and contemporary global developments."
