On February 18, 2005 The Shelby Star reported, "a year after school officials approved the posting of the words 'In God We Trust' in every Cleveland County classroom, Shelby resident Tony Izzi started working to get the mottoes added in Gaston County. So far, Izzi and some Gaston residents have received approval from the Gaston County school board and Superintendent Ed Sadler, and are now seeking funding to pay for about 3,000 posters. The schools received one poster each in 2001 after another resident donated them, said Gaston County Schools spokeswoman Bonnie Reidy... Izzi has been trying for the past three years to get the motto added to classrooms throughout North Carolina, with Gaston, Lincoln and Rutherford counties currently on his agenda."
