On March 2, 2006 the Chicago Tribune reported, "Despite opposition from hundreds of residents who cited traffic concerns, the Glenview Plan Commission recommended approving a Muslim house of worship in the North Shore community, officials said Wednesday. The commission's 4-2 vote came Tuesday night after members of the Ismailis, a small Muslim sect with about 7,000 members in the Chicago area, agreed to a construction plan that would limit the facility's impact on traffic... he Ismailis, many of whom worship in west suburban Northlake, want to build a structure near Shermer and Golf Roads that could accommodate close to 900 worshipers, said attorney Michael Downing, who represented the group before the Plan Commission... To address residents' concerns, the Ismailis agreed to build a buffer between their building and surrounding neighborhoods and to build a larger parking area than village regulations require. More than 1,000 residents had signed a petition asking the village to reject the Ismailis' request to build a 30,000-square-foot building on 9 acres in an industrial area...
