On April 21, 2003 the Orlando Sentinel reported that "more than 400 worshippers... of the Sikh Society of Central Florida celebrated Vaisakhi, the Sikh festival of commitment, hope and renewal... As worshippers in their Sunday best packed church pews for Easter service, Central Florida Sikhs gathered for one of their religion's most symbolic holy days -- part religious tradition, part harvest festival... Women dressed in a kaleidoscope of silks from chartreuse to fuchsia carried food to the canopy. There, beneath several layers of silk, lay the Guru Granth Sahib, the Sikh scripture. For the two days leading to Sunday's festival, members of the Sikh Society took turns reading from the holy book to commemorate the occasion."
