Lahore: Since he took his place on city roads just over a month ago, sub-inspector Gulab Singh has become an immediate attraction for commuters.

Motorists slow down to wave at him, and children come up to shake hands and have pictures taken.

Yet, there is nothing especially outstanding about the tall 25-year-old.

A [homeopathic] physician, he joined the new traffic force in Lahore last year, when advertisements were placed for graduates willing to take on the task of managing traffic.
