On May 3, 2003 the Tucson Citizen reported that "Tucson's Korean Buddhists finally have their own temple... [and] as Great Master Monk Taheo Seunim told them during the opening ceremony for the Arizona Diamond Zen Center on Sunday, the temple came about because of their steadfast quest for enlightenment... The Arizona Diamond Zen Center... is the first Korean Buddhist Temple in Tucson... Most of the 2,000 or so Koreans living in Tucson have been raised Christian or converted to Christianity by religious organizations that help them relocate here, said Yong Hui Kim, temple spokeswoman... Last year, Seunim visited the Tucson congregation and found its members almost literally wandering in the desert to practice their religion. For more than 10 years, about a dozen Korean families have been getting together for prayers at their homes... 'It was nice, but it wasn't like we had access to a temple,' Kim said... Seunim returned to his Diamond Zen Center in Palm Springs and worked to get $500,000 from the U.S. Buddhist Foundation to build a new temple, Kim said."
