On September 8, 2003, The Salt Lake Tribune reported: "Four days before the anniversary of the World Trade Center disaster, the message at the Salt Lake American Muslim Cultural Festival in Salt Lake City on Sunday was one of increased understanding, cooperation and respect between cultures...'Even before 9-11, there was a lot of bad stuff in the media about Muslims, a lot of stereotyping,' said Hasnain [the festival's organizer]. 'This festival is partly to help remedy that.'"
