On November 5, 2005 the Hindustan Times reported, "A Hindu temple in Florida... was destroyed in a devastating fire amid weeklong celebrations of the Deepawali festival. The Gujarati Samaj temple on Apalachee Parkway in Tallahassee was razed on early Thursday. It was the only place of worship in Leon County for about 110 families from India. The Deepawali celebrations had started on November 1. Participants were at the temple until 8 pm on November 2. The fire must have started only hours later, said Pat Teague, spokesperson for the Tallahassee fire department. A passer-by reported the blaze. Residents nearby said they didn't notice anything suspicious... The building and its contents, valued at $750,000, were described as 'a complete loss.' The cause of the fire is under investigation."
