A section of Blacktown's Hindu community is enraged about a forthcoming $300million Hollywood blockbuster they say is likely to offend their beliefs.

The movie, called Avatar is currently being filmed by James Cameron.

President of Blacktown's Swaminarayan Mandir Temple Khimji Vaghiani said the word Avatar is Sanskrit for the ``descent or incarnation of gods on earth''.

He said that incarnation was a central theme of Hinduism being practised by more than three billion people in the world.

Mr Vaghiani has appealed to director Cameron to be extra cautious in handling the Hindu religious concepts and terminology.
