On February 1, 2006 the Metro West Daily News reported, "Town Planner Steve Kerlin is drafting conditions to guide a planned four-year construction project at one of the largest Hindu temples in New England. [On Thursday] the planning board approved the plan for expansion of Sri Lakshmi temple at 117 Waverley Street. Members expect to ratify the approval and finalize the conditions Feb. 9... The first phase of Sri Lakshmi’s plan will expand the temple building from 10,800 square feet to 18,300 square feet with a new structure wrapped around the existing one. Also, plans call for the activities center. The final phase of the project would be construction of a 6,000-square-foot religious school, for children’s weekend lessons. The project is expected to be finished by 2009, but the phases depend on fund raising, officials said... If all goes smoothly with the planning board, and the board of health, construction could begin by summer, officials said."
